POSITION TITLE: School Guidance Counselor
FLSA: Exempt Professional
QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Arkansas Teachers License with necessary requirements to meet ADE certification accreditation standards for the position.
- Arkansas Counseling Certification
-
Teaching experience preferred.

School Counseling experience preferred.
- Evidence of strong commitment to quality education
- Evidence of strong organizational skills
- Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills
REPORTS TO: Principal
OVERVIEW: The school guidance program assists students in becoming responsible adults. Continuous attention is given to assisting students to develop competence in decision-making, career planning, working with others, and taking responsibility for their own behavior.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- To maintain records and files (registering students, scheduling, etc.)
- To assist students with the scholarship application process.
- To assist with scheduling to ensure students acquire appropriate credits for graduation.
- Guide and counsel groups of individual students through the development of educational and career plans.
- Counsel small groups and individual students with problems.
- Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
- Refer students with severe problems to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents.
- School test coordinator for Standardized Achievement Tests.
- Supporting the overall district’s educational program through general consultation activities and committee work.
- Assist with the placement of students in appropriate career and educational settings.
- To serve as the building 504 coordinator
- To serve as liaison with the school-based mental health agencies/teams
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Attend all meetings and training sessions as directed.

Assist administrators with the distribution and interpretation of standardized test scores for students and parents.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community.

Attend IEP and 504 meetings according to caseload.

Duties as assigned by the building principal or the superintendent.
Terms of Employment: 210 day contract.
